About Shannon

General

Shannon Crowley is a lyric soprano originally from Virginia Beach, Virginia. Currently, she resides in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where she works as a resident at the Pittsburgh Opera. She has worked as an apprentice artist at Des Moines Metro Opera in 2025 and Opera Saratoga in 2023, and looks forward to joining the Merola Opera Program this summer. Shannon holds a Master's degree from Rice University studying with Dr. Robin Rice and a Bachelor's degree from Michigan State University. There she studied with world renowned baritone, Mark Rucker. 

Roles and Performances

Ms. Crowley has performed a vast amount of operatic roles both professionally and academically. During the 25/26 season with Pittsburgh Opera, Shannon sang the role of Mary in Fellow Travelers and covered Musetta in La Boheme.  She looks forward to singing the role of Nannetta in Falstaff  in the spring and Bailey in a world premiere of Laura Kaminsky's Time to Act.  Last season with Pittsburgh Opera she was seen as the Shepherd Boy in Puccini's Tosca and Zelmira in Haydn's Armida. This past summer, she covered Anne Trulove at Des Moines Metro Opera in The Rake's Progress as well as performed in scenes from Lucia di Lammermoor, Le Comte Ory, and more. During the summer of 2023 she performed as a leading artist in the world premiere of "The Selfish Giant" with Opera Saratoga. As a festival artist there, she also covered the role of Norina in Don Pasquale.


With RICE University, Shannon has performed the roles of Drusilla in L'incoronazione di Poppea, Jenny Hildebrand in Street Scene, and covered the role of Belinda in Dido and Aeneas in the Spring of 2024. At her time at the Michigan State School of Music, she sang Miss Wordsworth in Albert Herring, Le Feu and La Princesse in L'enfant et les Sortileges, Giulia in La Scala di Seta, and Servilia in La Clemenza di Tito. 


In concert, Shannon has sung as the soprano soloist in Handel's Messiah with the Memphis Symphony as well as the Soprano Soloist in Poulenc's Gloria with Michigan State University. 

Awards & Achievements

Winner of the 2025 Laffont Competition Pittsburgh District and 2024 Gulf Coast Region second place winner, Shannon has received multiple awards participating in prestigous competitions. She has receieved first and second place prizes at the Mildred Miller Competition, Ruth Burr Competition, annd Grand Rapids Opera Competition, as well as sung as a finalist in the National Opera Association competition and Premiere Opera Competition.
